To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the accession to the throne of Queen Victoria on June 21st, 1837, a special Jubilee number was issued on June 13th, 1887. Under the title
‘Victoria: Queen and Empress. A Jubilee Memorial’

(Appendix List no. 14).G. Barrett Smith wrote 8 chapters covering the Queen’s life and reign which was fully illustrated with scenes connected with the sovereign’s private moments as well as public ceremonial. The front wrapper in various shades of brown within a frame of gold, shows a female herald trumpeting the Jubilee. Four cupids hold an ermine-trimmed cloak and a portrait of the Queen. The shadowy background shows the dome of St. Paul’s and the minarets of an Indian temple. The issue has 32 pages; measures 30 x 42 cm and was priced at one shilling. next page >>
